Art Meets Protection: RHINOSHIELD's Commitment to Creativity and Individuality

Therefore, we’d like to celebrate two local indie artists from Malaysia. They are Lim Heng Swee, the artist behind ilovedoodle, and the founders of Loka Made. In 2022, they were featured as judges in our online ‘Design Your Own Phone Case” competition. Let’s dive into the world of ilovedoodle and Loka Made.
About ilovedoodle
Meet Lim Heng Swee, the illustrator of ilovedoodle. Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Lim is a self-taught artist with a background in Mechanical Engineering. Lim’s everyday mantra is “doodling a smile”. His aim is to put a smile on everyone’s daily life through his unique art.
Lim started his journey in creating digital art in 2019. His artworks embody a minimalist concept with calming colour tones of cats camouflaged as landscapes. Lim has always been fascinated by cats and their mysterious characteristics.
To him, the body shape of cats lying on the floor looks similar to the shape of a mountain. That’s how he came upon blending them inside colourful, minimalist landscape pieces. Lim mainly found his inspiration from the experiences he encountered in life. Like connecting each dot, any elements that he finds interesting and heartwarming, he would record them down.

His main inspiration and influence come from this piece called "The Story of the Mexican Fisherman" by Courtney Carver. The story inspires him to live simply and turn to what matters most in life.
Apart from his collaboration with RHINOSHIELD, he has also worked with popular brands such as Uniqlo (Japan) and Gap (US). He has also published a few books throughout 2020 - 2022. Some of his notable publications include Overthink (Taiwan), Apolline Et La Vallee De L’espoir (France), and Catffirmation (US).

About Loka Made
Founded by Audrey Chew and Chong Fei Giap in 2015, Loka Made is a creative brand with a team of designers that believes in the concept of discovery and reassembling local elements. Both Chew and Chong graduated from The One Academy in illustration.
Loka Made started with pop-up cards and their products included postcard series, stickers, magnets, keychains and greeting cards. They also have a physical store located in USJ 9 Subang Jaya which displays their artwork and their products.
Their unique perspective in art comes from combining local elements and Japanese anime. For Loka Made, their design injects fun by seeing beyond the bits and pieces of what makes up Malaysia. Loka Made puts their own twist on fantasy and creative imagination.
Chong’s imagination and exploration of the world during his childhood is the main influence on Loka Made. Chong’s inspiration for Loka Made comes from seeing through children’s eyes, conceptualising scenes of old cinemas, sundry shops, snack bars and other places he frequented as a kid. Their designs are influenced a lot by the heritage buildings, culture, and scenery in Malaysia. Such as the streets of KL, Little India, Jalan Dato Bandar Tunggal, and Jalan Siow Loong Hin.
Over the years, Loka Made has co-organised over 10 exhibitions and published their very own art book. The founders also co-created the art concept and poster for a popular local movie called The Journey.
As for Loka Made’s future, they are always looking for new ways to share their art with everyone. They aim to produce their very own animated movie by incorporating their signature designs.
