Our mission is simple yet transformative: redefine the plastic lifecycle through plastic management to create meaningful change for our planet and society. This purpose sets us apart because we envision a future that transcends products. This blueprint wasn't there from day one. We explored. We pivoted. We learned. Until one defining moment crystallized our future and our responsibility. |
Like many brands, we started with one core belief: build the best product on the market. Our first creation, the most impact-resistant screen protector available, was an instant hit. Sales skyrocketed. We expanded our shock-absorption technology into phone cases, launching new product lines and fueling continuous growth.
But alongside rising sales came another climbing number that revealed a problem we'd never anticipated: waste.
Every new phone launch rendered previous models obsolete. Warehouse corners filled with boxes of inventory. A missed production forecast here, a supply chain hiccup there—and the numbers kept climbing. Most would meet the same fate: bulk shipments to disposal facilities, destined for landfills.
That moment hit us hard. We were caught in the fast fashion cycle and we didn't even realize it.
The answer lay in our manufacturing process. Like most in the industry, we used co-molding, fusing hard and soft plastics to create superior shock absorption and impact resistance. While this technique delivered excellent protection, it permanently bonded two different plastic types, making separation for recycling virtually impossible. Their fate was sealed from the moment of creation.
Flawed product design determined the product's destiny from day one. We faced what was actually an industry-wide blind spot: obsessing over production and sales while completely ignoring end-of-life management.
Some competitors tried "downcycling," grinding cases into road filler. Others pursued "upcycling," transforming waste into art pieces to extend product life through added value.
But these approaches were essentially damage control—reactive fixes, not proactive design solutions. They could only "manage" waste, not truly "eliminate" it. They appeared sustainable on the surface but failed to meaningfully reduce plastic's environmental impact.
When an entire industry produces phone cases destined for non-recyclability, annual production volume essentially equals future plastic waste volume. Recent data shows this amounts to 80 fully loaded Airbus planes worth of plastic waste annually.
To break free from this trajectory, we hit the reset button and reimagined our future.
We redefined our brand direction: create products that are not only great, but great for the planet.
Finding this answer took seven years of relentless exploration. We examined every stage, from materials, design, to manufacturing, studying different solutions and analyzing each phase of the product lifecycle for environmental impact.
We researched alternative materials extensively. We experimented with bio-based plastics and biodegradable polymers, only to discover they were mostly short-term fixes that couldn't meet the multifunctional demands of phone case protection and often created new environmental problems.
Our breakthrough realization: The solution isn't material substitution, and it's circulation.
We discovered a fundamental truth: plastic itself isn't the problem. The real issue is how we choose to treat it. When technology enables plastic to become a truly circular material, it transforms from waste into a precious resource.
In 2024, we launched CircularNext based on three core principles: zero waste, single material, 100% circular manufacturing. This groundbreaking phone case achieves "technical zero waste," meaning complete recyclability and reintegration into production cycles. Like PET bottle recycling, CircularNext can be fully recovered and remanufactured, establishing an entirely new sustainability standard for the phone case industry.
This breakthrough expanded our vision beyond phone accessories into comprehensive plastic management. We're creating new lifecycles for plastic, much like water's natural cycle from liquid to ice and back to liquid in an eternal loop. With the right methods and technology, plastic transforms from disposable waste into an infinitely reusable precious resource.
RHINOSHIELD is committed to driving this plastic revolution forward, delivering concrete and scalable solutions that transform plastic from waste into resource.
